Our work for the environment

In 2023 we got our own beekeeping. Because of this, we have now set aside green areas in our park that we “save” for our little bees and thus contribute to biodiversity. The honey and bee wax candles are sold in our kiosk at the reception.

It is an advantage for us to have nature as our closest neighbor as the dams are connected to our own power plant. We therefore have our very own hydroelectric power that supplies our facility with electricity, most of the year. And as part of this work to reduce our energy consumption, we have replaced our light sources with LED lighting with the lowest energy class.

For our guests who come by electric car, we offer charging facilities.

Hotel & Restaurant

We have a supplier of textiles and towels that are Swan-labeled, who also has a well-developed environmental mindset with a solid environmental policy within their company. When it comes to cleaning rooms, other salons and surfaces, as well as dishes, we work with environmentally certified products here too. Our products have both Swan-labeled and Ecolable labels.

Garbage and waste management is an important part of reducing our climate footprint and here we work with sorting our waste according to the guidelines and regulations contained in the Green key certification. Here at Thorskogs Slott, candles are a huge and important part of creating the cozy and lovely atmosphere for our guests. Burned out candle stubs are sent back to the factory which then recycles and makes new candles. This way we get a lower cost for candles and the environment suffers less damage.

As part of our atmosphere and feel, it is also important for us to preserve and restore – before buying new and renovating, and we carry this mindset with us in everything we do here at the castle and in the park.

Our kitchen – the four seasons

Here we continuously work with what the season has to offer and work with local and locally grown ingredients to the extent possible.

In our park we have our very own herb garden, so when it is in season, we pick and use ingredients from our own gardens. It includes everything from vegetables to herbs, berries and fruits.
We have also had a bountiful apple harvest here at Thorskogs Slott, and of course we take advantage of this by picking all our apples, which we then make must from. It is then sold here on site in our restaurant and bar.

We also only serve organic coffee and tea here.
